The Lakota Tribe :DDD

Beaded Leather Hand-Bag
The tribe that I am doing is called The Dakota Tribe. They also have other names such as: The Dakota Tribe, The Sioux Dakota Tribe, The Sioux Tribe.

The Dakota Tribe would make many types of art. The women made such things as quill work and bead work. Quill work was an art used mainly by the Plain and the East Coast tribes. The women used quill work out of porcupine quills and they would dye and soften them so that they could weave them and turn them into leather or birch bark. The women would also make war shirts, moccasins, medicine bags, birch bark boxes, jewelry, and baskets were usually made out of quills too. Men would do buffalo-hide paintings. Sioux Indians would also make pottery, parfleche, and ceremonial calumets.

Men's Buffalo-Hides

The buffalo-hide paintings would tell a story about an important event of the tribe. Buffalo-hides would also show winter counts on them. Men would wear buffalo-hides that had drawings of war on them. This buffalo-hide has the painting of the men coming back from a raid. They also have a captured soldier. Women would wear buffalo-hides with geometric patterns and shapes. The winter counts would show important events that ever happened to the tribe.

Winter Count

The Dakota Tribe today are living in reservations in North and South Dakota. The and of the reservation is poor and is only good for grazing cattle. They barley had any money for cows and horses. The tribe is saying that they don't want the government to manage things for them. They need better houses to live in and they need better schools for the children. The tribe also needs more hospitals. Now, more and more Dakota Tribe Indians are going to collage so that they can come back as doctors, teachers, lawyers, etc. so that they can help their tribe. The tribe still does the Sun Dance which was a sacred dance that their ancestors did. Few families still dry meat and make clothing from animal like they did before when their ancestors lived.

The Sioux Dakota Tribe is tired of the U.S. government not living up to their treaty promises. This made the Dakota Tribe forming a new country that includes the states North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, and Nebraska. They have 33 treaties with the United States that the U.S. hasn't lived up
to. The U.S. government has also been moving the tribe around from state to state. They constantly had to move their reservations because of the way the U.S. treated the Indians. The Indians were treated like outsiders to the U.S. Government. They treated Indians unjustly and unfairly. The Indians deserve a better life then the one that they're living now.

The Dakota Tribe is a proud tribe that is proud of its past and proud of all of its accomplishments. They want their children to learn the language of the Sioux and the history of their people. They want all their children to know their true story of their glorious past.

Very nice page Eddie. You did a great job with your essay. Avoid first person next time though. That aside, your page is excellent.
